Who gets bragging rights in this big event?
The Marion County Country Ham Days Hay Bale Toss is set to begin at noon on Sunday, Sept. 27. It’ll take place, as usual, in front of the Lebanon Post Office.
This year the boisterous tradition of who earns bragging rights is maintained, but there’s added emphasis on bringing new participants into the fold.

Darrell McCauley, a three-time hay bale toss champion and one of the sponsors of the event, described the three divisions of competition.
The 9-year-old and younger division will throw straw bales he weaves that weight about five pounds. The 10- to 15-year-old division will pitch bales he makes that weight 25 to 30 pounds. The upper division straw bales weight up to 50 pounds. Boys and girls, men and women, will compete separately.

There is no preregistration necessary; show up and sign up and compete on the day of the event.

And this year, for the first time in a while, THE LEGENDS will be there together to try and reclaim their Greek warrior-like glory. McCauley, Jake Akers and Steve Farmer won 15 titles in 15 straight years. Their social media antics portraying themselves as protagonists (they’re actually close friends) are a highlight in a buildup to the event. But not one of THE LEGENDS has won in the past two years. Meanwhile, upcoming contenders post social media video challenges with glistening muscles as they pump iron. It all gathers hundreds of clicks in a buildup that culminates on Sept. 27.

The colorful duo of Jeremy Bowman and Jim Reed, of 2 Shots on a Barrel podcast, will be there to MC the event. And gng On Demand will live-stream the Hay Bale Toss, as well as the entire weekend of Ham Days.
