The Marion County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a public memorial ceremony on November 14, 2022 beginning at 5:00 p.m. to honor Marion County Deputy Sheriff Anthony Rakes. This event will be held at the Memorial site on the grounds of the David R. Hourigan Government Building, 223 North Spalding Avenue in Lebanon.
This date marks the ten-year anniversary of the sacrifice Deputy Rakes made while serving the citizens of Marion County and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
During the early morning hours of November 14, 2012, Deputy Rakes stopped to check on a vehicle setting along the shoulder of Danville Highway near the Lebanon city limits. As Deputy Rakes approached the vehicle, he was shot multiple times by the driver who then fled the scene. Deputy Rakes radioed for assistance and was transported to Springview Hospital in Lebanon where he died a short time later. The suspect was arrested later that same morning in Campbellsville, Ky.
