A fallen Raywick firefighter will be permanently honored in Marion County with the dedication of a portion of Kentucky Highway 84 as the Lt. Brian Hatt Memorial Highway.
State Senator Jimmy Higdon, R-Lebanon, is inviting the Hatt family, members of the fire service and the public to attend a road naming ceremony scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, November 16th, at the Raywick Fire Department in Raywick.
The ceremony will include Higdon, State Representative Sarge Pollock, Raywick Fire Chief Herman Riggs, Marion County Judge-Executive David Daugherty and members of the Marion County Fiscal Court.
The designation was requested by the Marion County Fiscal Court, and Higdon introduced a separate resolution proposing the memorial highway. The Kentucky General Assembly approved the designation as part of its broader road and bridge naming resolution.
The memorial highway covers a portion of Kentucky Highway 84, extending from the intersection of Kentucky Highway 527 and Broadway Street, at mile point 5.25, to the intersection with Sallie Ray Pike, at mile point 7.269.
Hatt, 51, died August 25th, 2025, at University of Louisville Hospital after the tanker truck he was operating overturned while responding to a mutual aid fire call.
Hatt is survived by his wife of 23 years, Tonya, their three children, Austin, Autumn and Alayna, and two grandchildren, Evelyn and Jaycee.
Higdon says naming the highway in Hatt’s honor will provide a lasting reminder of his dedication and sacrifice.
” Lt. Hatt served his country and his neighbors, and he lost his life answering a call for help,” Higdon said. “Naming this road in his honor gives his family and the community he served a permanent marker of our gratitude. His sacrifice deserves to be remembered. This makes sure it will be.”
The November 16th ceremony at the Raywick Fire Department is open to the public. Community members and those who served alongside Hatt are invited to attend and help honor his life and service.
